Film & TV Language: Film poster analysis

 The poster shows what is probably the two main characters in the movie. The light in the top left is intentionally shone on Harrison fords character, highlighting the fact that the attention should be on him and the fact that he is portraying the protagonist. The fact that his name is on the poster likely means he the main marketing point of the movie as prior to it, he was already a popular actor. There is also a clear indication of sweat on his face highlighting that this is an action movie alongside the prop of a gun he is holding and the explosion at the bottom. To the right of him is a lady that can both serve as a side character, lover, or the antagonist of the hero. The fact that she is smoking suggests she is a woman of power and her stern facial expression suggests that at some point in the movie, she will be against the main character.

The poster of scary movie 2 is clearly a comedic parody of horror movies and clearly mocking them. For example the girl on the right has a shirt labelled " I love dead people" which is a reference to "the sixth sense" which has the phrase "I see dead people". At the bottom of the poster, it has the phrase "More merciless, more shameless", and based on the idea of the poster, suggests that it will likely mock other classic horror movie characters such as ghostface from the scream franchise or chucky the doll.    The poster additionally shows a group of older kids/ young adults suggesting that the movie is targeting people of that demographic.The fact that the setting is in cinema with the forefront of the poster being a man with popcorn on his head could also be mocking the audience as people typically get jump scared during horror movies, this is also noticeable with the rest of the cast as the people in the front seats look distressed, scared or worried.

This poster shows a man clearly in an isolated area covered in snow. From this angle the focus isn't about the person but more about what's around him, which clearly looks like nothing. He looks as it he's looking into that nothing and the location makes the movie look like an adventure mixed with emotional themes. He is clearly stood on an island in which the sea is separating the protagonist from the other side of the land, which could be symbolizing his loneliness. On one hand, he could be trying to get the other side of the sea, but the sea is a metaphor for the obstacles he will face but on the other hand, the protagonist doesn't show any emotion, it's only him looking out into the view. Perhaps the movie is about accepting his loneliness and allowing himself to live with the isolation.

This poster shows a young boy looking down into what appears to be a dark big pit. The colour contrast of the bright sunny blue sky compared to the never ending pit in which the boy is looking towards suggests that whatever is in the pit can't be very appealing meanwhile the world beyond the pit is a lot more exciting and prosperous. Considering the boy is looking down towards the pit, the movie looks to be an adventure or coming of age story, this young boy is stepping into unfamiliar territory, diving into the unknown and will likely see/ realise something that will end up becoming a key lesson that will stick with him for the rest of his life. The name of the film being " I'm not scared" could also represent the boy having to be courageous and face his fears.

This poster shows 5 characters with 2 of them holding props of a guns suggesting this could be an action thriller. The lighting of the poster makes the audience want to focus on the main 3 characters down the middle, the man in the middle is likely the protagonist and considering his lack of emotion, he looks to be a serious person who's put into an impossible situation. The guy next to him also holding a gun could either be his sidekick or the antagonist. Unlike the man in the middle he's pointing his gun ready to shoot unlike the other, who's got it pointed down, this makes me think he's the villain as it shows his willingness to kill which also connotes to the fact that he's comfortable making immoral decisions, something the protagonist will have to fight against. The woman to the right of him could be a sidekick to the antagonist or a potential love interest however the woman to the very left, almost camouflaging into the setting of the rain also looks like the antagonist as her face looks more evil than serious. The title "sin city" suggests the movie may be focused on making immoral decisions but still having to do it.

  

This poster focuses on 3 main characters with the guy on the left being the main character considering the name if the film is "pirates of the Caribbean" and he's the only person that looks like a pirate considering the weapon (prop) in his hand and the red headband he is wearing. The man and woman in the middle and the right look to be a couple and perhaps have to help the pirate with whatever they're searching for. The setting of a ship at the bottom of the characters appears to be sinking into the sea suggesting the pirate may be in trouble and be forced to have to be saved by the other people. The title "dead mans chest" likely means that the pirate could be looking for the treasure of a dead man, perhaps another pirate but is put into an impossible situation which eventually leads to the other humans helping him to retrieve the chest.

This poster shows a man and a woman who look to be getting married considering the name is "bride and prejudice". This movie is likely a romance and the man is likely trying to get the woman considering the "bride" is the woman. The name could've just been "bride and groom" but instead of groom its "prejudice" which suggests the marriage isn't smooth sailing. The brides family could be disapproving of the man leading to the potential "groom" having to prove he's good enough to marry her.

This movie has a much darker setting and is almost completely black expect for the 3 characters. The woman in the middle is likely the protagonist whilst the man on the left looks to be the antagonist. Unlike other posters featuring a man and woman, this doesn't look like it features a potential love bond between both characters but the seriousness in both characters faces suggests it could be a deep hatred for each other, perhaps they have a bad history and were once upon a time potential lovers. The man on the right at first glance looks to just be a side character who wants to help the the protagonist but doesn't have the same stern look as the other two characters suggesting he doesn't have as much of a personal beef with the antagonist. The movie is likely an action, suspense movie and the name "million dollar baby" can suggest that the antagonist may have lots of illegal money that the protagonist is trying to get back.
